Know Before You Go

You probably have noticed all the construction surrounding the intersection of University Parkway and Sandhill Road. Please be aware that between May 14 and May 18 there will be restrictions 24 hours a day at that intersection that may make alternative routes preferable.

Left hand turns will not be allowed from Sandhill Road onto the Parkway at anytime during these construction days. If you approach this intersection from the south, and want to make a left turn onto the Parkway -- to the I-15 on ramp or to get to Geneva Road-- you can use the roundabout at UVU to make that a right turn instead.

UDOT is transforming this intersection into what is called a CFI intersection. If you are familiar with Bangerter Highway in Salt Lake County, you may have encountered this sort of intersection. It will likely seem strange at first but it is designed to move traffic more efficiently.

Corporate Intrigue!

There is a documentary film making its way around the country entitled "Addiction Incorporated". The movie tells the story of Victor DeNoble, a former Phillip Morris employee, hired to find a safe substitute to nicotine. He later became one of the first whistleblowers. You can see a trailer here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=ipXyvIryD8o

Good news! the film is coming here too.
On Thursday, May 24th, "Addiction Incorporated" will be shown at the Scera Theater in Orem at 7PM. More good news: admission is free.
The movie itself is rated PG13 for brief language but take your teens and preteens. They need to see this. They need to understand what drives this industry.

Visit Provo's New Convention Center

You have seen the cranes; you have probably been inconvenienced by the construction detours. Now it's time time to enjoy this new addition to Provo's downtown.

The Grand Opening of the Provo Convention Center will be Saturday, May 12th, from 10 AM to 4 PM. There will be over 60 booths and exhibits to visit there, including a kids' craft fair. Food and fun for everyone! This event is free and is a good opportunity to become acquainted with the beautiful building in the middle of Provo.

Downtown will be buzzing all day that day. You'll want to get an early start. Read on!

The New Provo City Center Temple

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Provo City Center Temple (the one my kids call the "Tempernacle") has been announced. It will be on Saturday, May 12th at 9 AM. Since there will be so much interest, admittance to the area closest to the ceremony will be restricted to ticket-holders. The ceremony will be broadcast, however, to stake centers in the area, including the Grandview South Stake Center.

Do you want to participate in groundbreaking ceremonies closer to home? Read on!

Lion's Park Improvements

We will be having one more project at Lion's Park to place soil around the recently poured pathway, place mulch around trees in the park, and do other work on Saturday, May 12th from 11-1. Please spread the word.

Tools will be provided, but you may want to bring a pair of gloves, and you are welcome to bring shovels and wheelbarrows, and if anyone can bring an edger that would be great.

This project will put the final touches on the park AND helps us match the final $5000 grant our neighborhood received to pay for the concrete and other materials for the improvements.

I hope you are enjoying the park and its improvements. Projects like this put the “unity” in “community”!

Yellow Dots Can Save Lives!

The “Yellow Dot” program is a program designed to assist citizens and first responders in the event of an automobile accident or other medical emergency involving the participant’s vehicle.  This program can help save lives during the critical “Golden Hour” by improving communication at a time when accident victims may be unable to communicate for themselves.

The “Yellow Dot” program provides detailed medical information that can be crucial following a crash.  Participants of the program receive a “Yellow Dot” decal, a “Yellow Dot” Emergency Medical Information form with the participant’s name, emergency contacts, personal physicians’ information, hospital preference, medical conditions, recent surgeries, allergies and medications being used, and a location for an identifying photo to be attached.

A “Yellow Dot” decal on the driver’s side rear window of the vehicle alerts first responders to check in the glove compartment for the corresponding “Yellow Dot” Emergency Medical Information profiles.  Having this information following a crash helps first responders positively identify the person, get in touch with family or emergency contacts and ensures that the person’s current medications and pre-existing medical conditions are considered when treatment is administered for injuries.

The “Yellow Dot” program is a free service provided to individuals of all ages, with an emphasis on senior citizens.  The program is administered by Utah Department of Public Safety, Utah Highway Safety Office.  The “Yellow Dot” program is a cooperative effort of State Law Enforcement agencies, Fire & Rescue, Emergency Medical Services, and Communities of Utah.
