Open House for Spanish Fork-Provo Reservoir Pipeline - Reach 2


There will be an open house to provide information about the water pipeline project, which involves construction activities with in Provo City streets of Seven Peaks Boulevard, 700 North and 900 East, beginning this March.
The public is invited to come and learn about this important project. Information about the construction process and its impact to travel will be provided along with an overview of the schedule for contruction activities in this area.

The Spanish Fork Provo Reservoir Canal - Provo Reach 2 Pipeline Profect is a component of the Bonneville Unit of the Central Utah Project (CUP). The CUP was authorized in 1956 (Public Law 85-485) as a participating project of the Colorado River Storage Project to develop and distribute a portion of Utah's share of Colorado River water for use along the Wasatch Front.
This project, which utilizes a 60 inch (fiver foot diameter) welded steel pipe, is scheduled for completion September  2013. The contractor for the project is COP Construction.

Local Sports Broadcasting

Channel 17 will re-broadcast the Provo vs. Timpview basketball games and other local sports on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8-10 p.m. The girls' game will start on Channel 17 tomorrow. Watch the boys' game here.

Earthquake Drill

Only two months and eight days until a statewide earthquake drill called the Great Utah ShakeOut on April 17, 2012. Schools, businesses, individuals, and families are encouraged to participate by holding their own drills on that day. Olympics Celebration

Provo City will celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the 2002 Winter Olympics at the Peaks Ice Arena, 100 N. Seven Peaks Blvd., on Friday, February 10, 2012, during public skating, from 7-9:30 p.m. Patrons who wear Olympic-themed clothing or memorabilia will get half off the cost of admission and skate rental for the night. There will be a special presentation by Provo Mayor John Curtis and former CFO/COO of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the 2002 Winter Olympics, Fraser Bullock, at 8 p.m. An Olympic torch will be lit and displayed at center ice during the public skating session.

Redistricting the School Board Boundaries

The Provo Municipal Council is responsible for drawing the boundaries for school board and council districts to ensure the population is balanced among the districts in light of the latest census information. Residents can submit a proposed map using a new interactive mapping tool here. 

Also, there will be a public information meeting to explain the process and options on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, from 6-8 p.m. in the Municipal Council Chambers of the Provo City Center, 351 W. Center St.

Preschool Standards

The State Office of Education has been asked to establish standards for education programs in preschools. In the past they offered guidelines for Kindergarten readiness when anyone asked. The new standards would be more comprehensive and the Office of Workforce Services will use them in licensing commercial preschools. the committee that is drafting them is seeking input from the public -- that's you and me!
